Project Description
Since 1994 Barrett Mahony Consulting Engineers (BMCE) have carried out temporary works design for many contractors including Hegarty Demolition, Cramptons, Cleary and Doyle, Ellen Construction, McCabe Builders, Rohcon and Lissadel. The above photo is one of the most notable façade retention designs that BMCE carried out in conjunction with the redevelopment of the Marks and Spencer store on Grafton Street.
BMCE prepared an innovative temporary works design for the construction of Marks & Spencer’s flagship Irish store. The store occupies a historic city block in central Dublin. BMCE designed façade retention systems to listed buildings and a bespoke propping solution to a protected structure during a double basement excavation.
Other similar projects are Brown Thomas, Grafton Street, Clarendon Street Car Park, the Dental Hospital, Curved wall at the Oireachtas, Bow Street, Collins Barracks, Jervis Street earthworks support, Arnotts and much of the recent redevelopment work carried out in the Temple Bar.
This work has developed a very keen appreciation of the conflict between contractors and designers objectives and as temporary works designers the importance to satisfy both.
