Shortlisted for Housing Design Awards, Project Category 2012
A mixed use development of a high-profile brownfield urban site forming part of the wider regeneration of the area around Wembley National Stadium in London, to accommodate a 237-bedroom Hotel in 5-storey and 12-storey blocks; 158 no. residential units in 4-storey and 7-storey blocks and a 21-storey Tower with 600 sqm of commercial space at ground level. The project also includes structural provision for a further mezzanine level; extensive landscaped forecourt, central courtyard and roof terrace areas with parking for 127 no. cars in the single storey basement level.
The structure consisted of a reinforced concrete frame off piled foundations up to 1st floor in-situ transfer slab level. Above this level the construction was modular off-site factory built ‘room’ units, stacked on top of each other to form the residential and hotel bedroom blocks including those in the elliptical shaped tower. Lateral stability to the blocks was provided by the reinforced concrete stair/lift cores which were extended up to roof level. The modular construction was completed with on site cladding, bolt-on balconies and roof garden build-ups.
