BMCE recognises that Quality Assurance of our Products and Services is critical and is a vital part of our Management Function.
We view this as a Primary Responsibility and key to good business.

The company works towards continuous improvement of its Quality Management Activities. To achieve this we conduct our business in accordance with the following principles:
- Provide personal and responsive services to our clients
- Create project and site specific bespoke design solutions
- Provide experience, capability and creativity
- Use the latest computer aided design tools
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
- Follow a concept of continuous improvement and make best use of management resources in all quality matters
- Communicate quality objectives, and performance against these objectives, throughout the company and to clients and suppliers
- Take due care to ensure that activities are safe for employees, associates and others who come into contact with our work
- Work closely with our customers and suppliers to establish the highest quality standards
- Adopt a forward-looking view on future business decisions which may have quality impacts
- Train our staff in the needs and responsibilities of quality management

Barrett Mahony Consulting Engineers has been awarded the much sought after CPD Accredited Employer Standard by Engineers Ireland in recognition of our continuing professional development strategy.

CPD POLICY
Continuing Professional Development Policy (CPD)
It is the policy of BMCE to develop all personnel in order to maximize team and individual contributions to the company. The company believes that the promotion of career satisfaction and progression is key to individual and organizational success. In pursuance of this aim, the company is responsible for supporting the development of the people working for it so that these individuals can acquire additional skills for their present positions and new skills for future opportunities within the company. In order to achieve these CPD policy objectives, the company actively promotes the following:
- Assessment of the CPD needs of all employees
- An annual performance and development review of each employee where his/her CPD needs will be identified and an individual CPD plan agreed with the technical director
- Mentoring of junior engineers and technicians by chartered engineers
- CPD activity exceeding 5 days per engineer/technician per annum (average)
- Involvement with professional institutions (the company will pay institution membership fees), both in terms of attaining professional qualifications and in terms of participation in institution committees
- A knowledge management system is operated which ensures systematic capturing of experience/knowledge and dissemination of such information throughout the company
Within our Quality Manual we have set out in detail how to ensure, through the various company procedures, that the activities listed above are promoted and recorded.
QUALITY POLICY
BMCE operates a quality management system, in compliance with ISO 9001:2015, to direct and control our business activities. The quality management system consists of management of our administrative and technical resources using procedures and standard documentation to achieve our quality objectives which include, but are not limited to, the following:
- To be confident that the intended quality of our services is being achieved and maintained
- By achievement and maintenance of the quality of our service we fully meet our client’s requirements and ensure enhanced client satisfaction
- To ensure, by monitoring the effectiveness of the quality management system, defects are identified and rectified so that continual improvement of business performance and productivity is ensured.
Within our Quality Manual we have set out in detail how we intend to achieve these objectives. Our Quality Manual is available to all our employees and to clients on request. It is reviewed on an ongoing basis and updated as necessary.
SAFETY POLICY
Responsibilities as Employers
- To provide a safe place of work that has safe access and egress and uses equipment that is safe and without risk to health.
- To manage and conduct all work activities so as to ensure the safety, health and welfare of people at work.
- To prevent risks from the use of any article or substance, or from exposure to harmful agents.
- To provide information, instruction and training regarding health and safety to all employees. This includes special training for certain employees who are required to spend part of their time outside of the office either visiting site or carrying out surveys.
- To provide appropriate protective equipment and clothing to the employees at no cost to themselves.
- To provide and maintain welfare facilities for employees at the workplace.
- To appoint one or more competent persons to specifically provide the company with advice on compliance with the health and safety laws.
- To ensure that reportable accidents (where the person cannot perform their normal work for more than three consecutive days not including the day of the accident) and dangerous occurrences are reported to the Health and Safety Authority.
- To monitor and review health and safety on a regular basis and revise the Safety Statement as appropriate.
- The Safety Statement (Appendix VII of the Quality Manual) outlines in detail how the above objectives are achieved.
Responsibilities as Designers
- In addition to our responsibilities as employers we also have responsibilities as civil and structural engineering designers to carry out risk assessments of our designs to identify significant risks, if any, and to alter the design to eliminate or minimise these risks as far as is reasonably practical. This process of risk assessment of our design is part of the design process and as such is regulated by the Technical Review Procedures in Section 7 of the Quality Manual.
