At BMCE Structural engineering is our core speciality. We have provided structural engineering services to produce innovative and efficient structures across all building categories for both the private and public sector clients.

Designs to date have included Commercial, Office, Retail, Manufacturing, Technology, Healthcare, Education, Residential, Transport and Leisure sectors. Attention to detail and buildability are key fundamental considerations and these receive due attention regardless of the scale or complexity of the project.

Repeat custom from across the full spectrum of clients is a key indicator and testament to the service that BMCE offer. Our clients appreciate that we are cost conscious and strive to deliver the most efficient and appropriate structural solutions, whilst at the same time we are receptive and responsive to comments from our clients, profession partners and contractors.

BMCE formulate designs using a multitude of materials including concrete, steel, masonry, timber, glass and advanced composite elements. Designs are prepared to meet physical requirements of function, layout and strength and of course the client’s requirements and budget.

Our Structural Engineers are highly regarded, highly qualified, proactive and hands-on, are Chartered Engineers with Engineers Ireland and also Registered Chartered Members of the prestigious worldwide body representing structural engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). We encourage innovation and the technical development of our staff through a programme of continuing professional development and active mentoring.

Structural engineering solutions are arrived at following an iterative procedure that begins with preliminary scheme design including a review of viable options, the application of experience and innovative methods in conjunction with the architect and design team. Ultimately the advanced design of the final solution is prepared using a combination of hand calculation and advanced computer analysis as appropriate.

Our designs have won awards from our peers including prestigious accolades from Engineering Institutions and Associations.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) and 3D analysis are very well developed in the office and we would be regarded as a forerunner of the application of BIM on Structural project in Irelandand the UK.

Particular expertise has been developed within the practice on conservation of Historic Buildings, Tall Structures and the construction of Modular volumetric buildings.

We actively engage with Industry and the Schools of Engineering at third level to allow us keep informed of technological developments and to return the compliment by offering assistance where required, including the presentation of lectures and technical appraisals at an academic level.

The practice participates in the ACEI and holds a seat on the Structures and Construction Sub-Committee of the Association of Consulting Engineering of Ireland.
